Norman Richard Michels and Mary Ruby Waller Michels operated the Malt Burger in New Port Richey. They were married in 1943 and moved to Greenville, Texas, and went into the Dairy Queen business. Their daughter Shirley Michels recalls, “During the time we lived in Greenville, Texas, we took vacations in Florida along with Pearl and Elmer [Shirley’s grandparents] who decided to retire and move to New Port Richey in 1957. They saw a need for a Dairy Queen type business there, so Mother and Dad sold everything and off to Florida we went. After nine months the Malt Burger was sold in July 1958.
